Phoenix, AZ - Emergency Management Planner

POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Phoenix is seeking an Emergency Management Planner responsible for development, implementation, and coordination of city and regional emergency plans and programs, management of the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and city and regional emergency management training and exercises. Duties include researching, reviewing, writing, and maintaining emergency plans for city operations during emergency or disaster events; monitoring emergency management trends and legislation; coordinating with regional stakeholders, partners, government, private security, and public safety personnel; and will serve as a key member of the management team for Super Bowl XLIX (49) in 2015.

SALARY
$54,392 - $81,245 annually. Appointment may be made above the minimum depending on qualifications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree with coursework in emergency management, disaster management, public safety, or a related field.
  • 3 years of professional experience working in public safety, or emergency management
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, statutes and executive orders pertaining to emergency
  • planning and policy formulation
  • Knowledge of the principles of public administration, contingency planning and emergency management
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Experience working in an Emergency Operations Center
  • Experience in adult education and training, as well as making presentations to a wide variety of both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Familiar with GIS mapping
  • Plan development expertise
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Grants administration
  • Master's degree in public or business administration or a related field
